Lineage

Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II became Kabaka on November 21, 1969 after the death of his father and the okubikka akabugo ceremony. Although to many Baganda, Mutebi was the Kabaka living in exile, he was only recoginized by the Uganda government in 1993 when the Bataka of Buganda arranged for his formal coronation. Mutebi was crowned His Royal Highness, Sabasajja Kabaka wa Buganda at Nagalabi, Busiro county, on July 31, 1993.

Mutebi's father was much loved Ssekabaka Fredrick Edward Walugembe Muteesa II who was forced into exile when Milton Apollo Obote, then Prime Minister of Uganda, staged a military coup, changed the constitution, and abolished the official recognition of Kabaka of Buganda.
